All Black Rugby World Cup winner Piri Weepu has extended his contract with the Blues for another two seasons keeping him playing Super Rugby in Auckland until the end of 2014.
Weepu broke the news about his new contract with the Auckland based Super Rugby franchise on Twitter by saying, " "It's official ... sign, sealed, delivered! Stay with the Blues next season. Happy."
Weepu will join his fellow All Black Ma'a Nonu and new coach Sir John Kirwan after the Blues dropped coach Pat Lam who had a difficult season in 2012.
Weepu originally joined the Blues on a one year deal from the Hurricanes and has struggled with his weight and his form.
There were rumours of him returning to Wellington as he was said to be homesick but has decided to stay in Auckland.
New coach Kirwan has told Fairfax Media that he was excited about having two key All Blacks in his Super Rugby squad for next season.
"They (Weepu and Nonu) are two X-factor players and I'm really glad they are here," said Kirwan.
